Lucky Charm krispie treats are an easy, fun and festive snack you can make with the kids. These bars are so thick, chewy and full of marshmallows. We usually make these little delights for St. Patrick’s Day, but if you’re a Lucky Charms cereal fan, they are good any time of year.
I love any krispie marshmallow treat, but I love to make mine a little bigger than the norm. I like a big and thick bar. Go big or go home! Read on to find out how I make them.
Ingredients

- butter
- mini marshmallows
- Lucky Charms cereal
- Rice Krispies cereal
- non-stick cooking spray to grease the baking dish or you can use butter
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions

Step 1: Spray a 9 x 13-inch baking dish or pan with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
Step 2: Melt butter in a large saucepan on low heat.
Step 3: Once the butter is completely melted add 15 oz (1 1/2 bags if you’re using two 10 oz bags) of the marshmallows. (Add the remaining 5 oz of marshmallows later.)

Step 4: Keep heat on low and melt marshmallows, stirring often and scraping the bottom of the pot with a rubber/silicone spatula or a wooden spoon.

Step 5: Add both cereals to the saucepan with the melted butter and marshmallows and mix together with a large rubber/silicone spatula or a large spoon until combined.
Step 6: Add the remaining 5 oz of unmelted marshmallows and mix with the cereal mixture until combined.

Step 7: Add treat mixture to your prepared 9 x 13-inch baking dish and spray your hand with non-stick cooking spray (or use butter or shortening).
Step 8: Lightly press treats down evenly with your hand. Don’t press them hard or compact them. You want them to be light.
Step 9: Cover with plastic wrap for at least 1 hour. Cut into 12 even squares with a sharp knife.
Enjoy!
Hint: Resist the urge to melt the butter and marshmallows on a higher heat. It causes the marshmallows to overheat and caramelize, which could make a hard, crunchy or tough texture.
Variations
- Melted chocolate – Drizzle melted white or semi-sweet chocolate over the top of the treats or dip the bottoms in melted chocolate.
- Browned butter – Brown the butter before adding the marshmallows for more depth of flavor.
- Golden Grahams cereal – Swap 1-2 cups of Lucky Charms with Golden Grahams cereal. It adds a toasty, honey flavor and softens the sweetness.
Equipment
- large 6-qt saucepan
- 9 x 13-inch baking dish
- rubber/silicone spatula
- large spoon
Storage
Store treats in an airtight container or sealed food storage bag at room temperature for 4-5 days or up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
Treats can be frozen for up to 3 months in an airtight freezer bag or container.
Top Tips
- Because there are a large amount of ingredients to mix together here, I like to use an extra sturdy spoon when mixing these ingredients together. It just makes it easier to handle.
- Don’t pack the treats down too tightly. They won’t be light and crispy.
- Wait 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours before cutting and eating the treats. You want those marshmallows to really sink into the cereal.
