Air Fryer Hot Dogs

Air Fryer Hot Dogs are amazing and finished in 8 minutes total cooking time. They are crispy on the outside and taste like they just came off of the grill. They are SO good!

Air fryer hot dogs may sound pretty simple but they definitely deserve their place in the spotlight. They are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside just like they came off of the grill!

We make these hot dogs often and they are ready in no time. They take just 8 minutes even with making the buns toasty. You don’t even have to fire up your grill. And forget boiling them.

Read on to see how we do it!

Ingredients

Ingredients for air fryer hot dogs labeled
  • hot dogs (we love all beef Ball Park dogs)
  • hot dog buns
  • non-stick cooking spray
  • condiments of your choice

See recipe card for quantities.

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your air fryer on 400°F for 5 minutes.

Step 2. Lightly spray the air fryer grid with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 3. With a small, sharp knife, make three diagonal slits in each hot dog. (This allows the heat to reach the middle of the hot dogs and result in shorter cooking time.)

Step 4: Add your hot dogs to the air fryer and make sure they are not touching.

We are going to cook them for 6 minutes, turning them halfway in between cooking time. Close the air fryer and cook for 3 minutes.

Frozen hot dogs: If your hot dogs are frozen, not to worry. Just cook them on 350°F for 8 minutes instead of 6, and also turning halfway between cooking time.

Step 5. Open the air fryer and turn the hot dogs.

Cook the hot dogs for another 3 minutes.

Step 6. Open the air fryer and remove the hot dogs.

Step 7. Place the hot dogs into their buns.

Step 8. Place two of the hot dogs in their buns back into the air fryer.

Cook for 2 additional minutes to get the buns toasty.

Step 9. Remove hot dogs from air fryer. Repeat until all the hot dogs are done.

Step 10. Add your favorite condiments and enjoy!

Hint: If you like your hot dogs on the more charred side, you can cook them for 8 minutes instead of 6, turning halfway through cooking time.

Variations

  • Condiments – you can add any kind of condiments you like
  • Toppings – add chopped onions, chili, cheese, pickles or anything else you like on your dogs

Equipment

  • air fryer
  • tongs

Storage

Store leftover hot dogs for 3-4 days covered in the refrigerator outside of their buns.

Hot dogs can be frozen without their buns for up to 3 months in an airtight freezer bag or container.

Top tip

Make sure to turn the hot dogs halfway between cooking time for more even cooking.

Frozen Hot Dogs

If your hot dogs are frozen, not to worry. Just cook them on 350°F for 8 minutes instead of 6, and also turning halfway between cooking time.

I just love the magic of my air fryer! The first time I tried these simple hot dogs in the air fryer, I could not believe how delicious they came out. I love a grilled hot dog but we only make our hot dogs in the air fryer now. They come out just as tasty, if not more.

Let me know if you try my air fryer hot dogs in the comments below. I would love to hear from you!
